Webb’s Langham scores in the sand and relays
By Steve Williams
Lennox Langham apparently likes playing in the sand. She does it often in her role as a long jumper and triple jumper for Webb School.
She also will be going to Florida State to play beach volleyball after high school.
Before then, however, Lennox will continue to pile up the points for the Lady Spartans in their pursuit for a TSSAA state championship this spring.
Langham had a big role in Webb winning the girls’ championship in the Knoxville Interscholastic League Meet last week at Hardin Valley Academy.
She dominated the long jump and triple jump, setting new KIL meets records of 18-9½ and 39-1½, respectively, while Hardin Valley’s Acheema Cummings-Scott and Naomi Burum finished second.
Farragut senior Katie Edmunds also stood out in the pole vault, going over the bar at 11 feet, while Central’s Kaylee Reed placed second.
Maggie Frana, Catholic senior, swept the throw events, with a 122-7 mark in the discus and 36-2 in the shot put. Karns’ Gracie Schoenfelder and Austin-East’s Ari’ajia Gadson placed second in the two events, respectively.
Webb junior Tallulah Carney and West’s Mackenzie Eisenberg placed 1-2 in the high jump as both cleared 5-4.
On the track, Catholic junior Chloe Truss and Webb junior Calysta Garmer were double winners.
Truss posted a 24.49 time in the 200 just ahead of Catholic’s Payton Sipos. Chloe breezed to victory with a 56.43 in the 400. Farragut’s Reagan Estes came in second.
Garmer won the 1600 in 4:52.84 and edged her twin sister Jazzlyn with a KIL meet record time of 10:22.18 in the 3200.
The Lady Spartans’ Carolina Areheart, who recently signed with Vanderbilt, prevailed in the 800 with a 2:18.86 and placed second in the 1600. HVA’s Alexandra Vesser took second place in the 800.
Webb freshman Lacy Young won the 100 dash in 12.19. Gibbs’ Addison Miller was second just ahead of Webb’s Simone Romain.
Catholic’s versatile Sipos swept the 100 and 300 hurdles with times of 15:01 and 44.61. CAK’s Amelia Wedemeyer was runner-up in both races, with times of 15.16 and 45.90.
Webb won three of the four relay events. Jeneva Mitchell, Romain, Langham and Young combined for a 48.95 time in the 4×100. In the 4×200, Romain, Caroline Dye, Langham and Young posted a 1:43.88. Jazzlyn, Gabby Bainbridge, Calysta and Areheart were clocked in 9:53.27 in the 4×800.
Farragut set a new KIL meet record with a 4:00.67 in the 4×400. The foursome included junior twins Christie and Courtney George, senior Reagan Estes and junior Ava Barczak.
Webb scored 159 points, while runner-up Catholic tallied 132. Rounding out the Top 5 girls teams were Farragut (82), Hardin Valley (79) and West (64).
