The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department celebrated a significant milestone on Friday, August 8th, by breaking ground at their new location on 10320 Chapman Highway in Seymour. The ceremony, which had a strong turnout from community partners, began with welcoming and opening remarks, followed by a prayer led by Cory Cain.
Chief John Linsenbigler offered acknowledgments and special thanks, highlighting three key milestones in the establishment of the new fire station: the expansion, the modernization of fleet vehicles, and the groundbreaking ceremony itself. He stated, “Today’s ceremony is about recognizing the many individuals and groups whose dedication and partnership have brought us to this moment.”
The event featured rounds of photo opportunities with golden shovels. Attendees included federal partners such as U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett, state partners like Rep. Dave Wright, and county officials including Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters, Sevier County Sheriff Michael Hodges Jr., Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs, Blount County Mayor Ed Mitchell, county commissioners, capital campaign members, board members and community supporters.
Board member Joe Fowler emphasized the importance of the unique fire service that spans the three counties of Sevier, Blount, and Knox. Capital Campaign Chair Rod Davis honored the commitment of family members and the memory of board member Jerry Price, who passed away last year, recognizing his contributions to the success of the new fire station. “It’s that same tireless effort of Jerry, that same spirit, that makes our community.”
The ceremony reached its heartfelt conclusion with a warm and sincere expression of gratitude, as the hosts simply stated, “Thank you for believing in us.” This closing sentiment resonated deeply with the attendees, who then enjoyed delicious food while receiving thoughtful thank-you gifts that reflected the appreciation of the hosts.
The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department also announced its second annual Sporting Clay Event Fundraiser, set to take place on October 10. If you’re interested in making a donation or volunteering, please visit www.seymourvfd.com for further details.
