At-large Commissioner Larsen Jay announced recently that a free Veterans Luncheon is planned for Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the Bridgewater Place. The 11:30 a.m. event, honoring veterans of all military services, features special guest General John F. Kelly, U.S. Marine Corps, retired.

Seating is limited, and registration for the Knox County veterans-only event can be found at www.LarsenJay.com/2026VeteransLuncheon or by calling (619)313-7392.

Commissioner Jay told The Focus that his family has seven members who have worn the uniform for our country. Jay, who was born on an Air Force base in Texas, said, “I have always valued service to our country.

“My wife, Adrian, serves on the board of George Washington’s Mount Vernon (vice regent representing the State of Tennessee), and we were at an event earlier in the year where General Kelly was my dinner partner. We had some great conversations about life, leadership, commitment to the country’s future, integrity, and the value of public service,” Jay said.

“I’ve always been told, ‘you have to make the ask,’ so I talked with him about the work I do supporting Knox County Veterans and asked if he would join me for a special luncheon – and the answer was yes! I’m so excited to have such a decorated and honored member of our armed forces community joining us for a special luncheon and conversation,” he continued.

Kelly’s military career spans over half a century. He is now a board member at Caliburn International after retiring from military service and being a political advisor.

“General Kelly’s resume, pedigree and accomplishments are nothing less than admirable. He has sacrificed for our country and continues to be a great representation of duty to the nation on the highest level. It’s an honor to bring him to Knox County,” Jay told The Focus.
