High school basketball bounces through several seasons.
First, there’s the Hall of Fame Week.
Then there’s the Thanksgiving tournaments in late November.
Other Holiday tourneys come after Christmas.
Then after New Year’s, around Jan. 6, district play really gets going and continues until late January.
About this time Division I and Division II teams begin to go different ways on the tourney trail and end up in two different towns – Murfreesboro and Cookeville.
District tournament action begins in mid-February and that’s the beginning of elimination games.
After that, the pressure really picks up with the Region tournaments, followed by the Sectionals or Sub-States as some older fans still call it.
And to wrap it all up, TSSAA state tournament play decides which teams will go home with the gold or silver.
As of Dec. 4, here are the local teams with the best won-loss records. One or two or even more may end up bringing home gold or silver in March.
