The History Fair at the East Tennessee History Center is set for Saturday, Aug. 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities include living history reenactments, live music, square dancing, crafts and children’s activities as well as film screenings at the Tennessee Theatre. These Mountains Are Home will be shown at 11 a.m. It examines how East Tennessee saw itself and its history at the time of the Bicentennial, an enduring look at pioneer life in Appalachia, and a tribute to the people and institutions that keep these traditions alive. At 1 p.m., TAMIS (TN Archive of Moving Image and Sound) will share short films on the theme of “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” submitted by members of the community. At 3 p.m. 1776, a 1972 musical about the Continental Congress’s struggle to declare independence from Great Britain, will be shown. It stars, among others, Knoxville native John Cullum as Edward Rutledge. |
