Beverly Park golf course receives facelift, new name

The Par-3 golf course in North Knox County has received a facelift and a new name recently.

The course, formerly known as Beverly Park, is now The Barn of Beverly after its recent remodeling.

Mark Brown, a pro at nearby Three Ridges Golf Course, located just outside of the Fountain City community, is now in charge of The Barn at Beverly and at the Par-3 course located at Concord Park in the West part of the county.

“We’ve had a complete rebranding at The Barn at Beverly,” Brown said. “We resurfaced all nine holes with Sunday Bermuda.”

Knox County Parks and Recreation had always maintained the Par-3 courses at Beverly and Concord Park and the county was looking to improve the conditions at the course, which allows youth golfers from the area to play for free thanks to PGA pro Scott Stallings, who hails from nearby Oak Ridge.

“Scott lets the kids play for free and we wanted the course to be something he could be proud of,” Brown said. “He lets them play for free and then he reimburses the course through funds in his foundation.”

A large barn is on the course and Brown said that the Par-3 will soon utilize that building.

“We’re turning the barn into a training facility where the kids can play (when weather is inclement),” Brown said.

The county also sought help from a pair of University of Tennessee professors, Jim Brosnan and Brad Horbath.

The university will also allow interns to maintain the county’s two Par-3 courses as part of their education experience.
