Knoxville Parks and Recreation will host its 13th annual Teen Step Show Saturday, April 27, at 6 p.m. at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium.
Twelve step teams and three dance teams from Tennessee and four other states will bring their most creative moves as they compete for prizes awarded for performance on stage and performance academically.
“We’re excited to have Knoxville well-represented with dance teams from Austin-East High School and Central High School, and a step team from West High School,” said Nikki Crutcher, Recreation Superintendent with Knoxville Parks and Recreation.
“The Step Show competition is a great way to involve area teens in fitness activities and friendly competition.”
Show tickets are $10 and are available online at knoxvillecoliseum.com or at the door the day of the show.
The Step Show is sponsored by Hot 104.5 and Gams Hair Fashions. Additionally, Knoxville Area Transit is sponsoring free transportation for teens from the Civic Auditorium to the Change Center after the show. Students will receive a $2 discount on a skate rental at the Change Center when they present their Step Show ticket. The center is extending its hours Saturday to 10:30 p.m. for this special post-show promotion.
Interest in the competition has grown over the years, and this year’s 250 competitors will be traveling from Kentucky, North Carolina, Florida and Virginia as well as from Memphis.
“We have people of all ages who come and enjoy the show,” Crutcher said. “It’s a show you don’t want to miss.”
