The area near Lakeshore Park may become a Conservation and Historic Overlay neighborhood. The Knoxville City Council may vote Tuesday to ask the Knoxville-Knox County Planning Commission to look into designating it as such.
The resolution asks the planners to look at residential parcels south of Echo Drive, east and south of Grandview Drive, west of Lyons View Pike, north of Oak Grove Lane and east of Agnes Road. The council wants the study to designate the boundaries as suggested by District 1 Councilman Nathan Honeycutt.
R. Bentley Marlow is appealing the Board of Zoning Appeals’ denial of religious exemption for a single-family home at 1406 Wallace Street. Marlow, of Marlow Properties and Marlow Charities, seeks the exemption “to increase the density at a single-family house by viewing the home conversion as an Accessory Dwelling Unit and by granting exceptions to the size and owner-occupancy requirements for fire safety, in a RN-2 (Single-Family Residential) Zoning District.”
Rachel Craig also has an appeal on the council’s agenda, this one seeking to overturn a planning commission ruling regarding a Level III Alternative Compliance Review in the South Waterfront area for 315 Kerbela Avenue.
The city’s Audit Committee may be “reconstituted” in a request by Vice Mayor Lynne Fugate and three council members.
Mayor Indya Kincannon plans to reappoint Joshalyn Hundley to the Affordable Housing Fund Advisory Committee and appoint Jay Moneyhun Jr. to that group. District 6 Councilman Denzel Grant will name Kimberly Black, Melissa Nelson, Nathalie De La Torre, Areka Edwards, April Hardin-Jones and Brian Brooks to the African American Equity Restoration Taskforce.
The mayor may be authorized to contract with Employee Network Inc. to provide an assistance program for city workers and retirees covered by the city’s medical insurance, as well as Knoxville Area Transit Employees and their dependents. The annual cost would be $110,000.
Two companies may be hired for $75,000 each to do guardrail replacements in a request from the Engineering Department. Round II Empowerment Zone funding from the federal government may be approved for redeveloping abandoned and blighted houses and vacant lots.
