Background: In observance of National HIV Testing Day on June 27, the Knox County Health Department (KCHD) is teaming up with Walgreens and Helen Ross McNabb Center to offer free HIV testing at two local Walgreens pharmacies. Certified HIV testers from KCHD and Helen Ross McNabb Center will conduct free and confidential tests, which use an oral swab and give reliable results in 20 minutes. No blood or needles are involved. Counseling and referrals are available for all who participate. Eighteen percent of Americans living with HIV do not know they are infected and may unknowingly infect others. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourages everyone ages 13-64 to get tested for HIV at least once.
