If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to protect your vehicle from being stolen, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with The Great Smoky Mountains Chapter CPCU has the solution. And, it’s FREE!

Operation Vehicle ID will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the TIS Services Building in the back parking lot, 1900 Winston Road, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919. The vehicle identification number is permanently etched in your vehicle’s windshield and windows. It is placed in a discreet location and does not harm the glass. The entire process takes less than ten minutes.

VIN Etching can be a significant deterrent to vehicle thefts. Thieves will often pass a car that has been marked this way because it can be quickly traced. From January 1, 2021, until now, approximately 400 motor vehicle thefts occurred in Knox County.

Sheriff Tom Spangler encourages Knox County residents to come and take advantage of this free service.
