The Knoxville Community Band’s summer concert series continues with an American celebration at World’s Fair Park’s Tennessee Amphitheater, Sunday, June 23, at 3:00 p.m.
The patriotically-themed concert will feature energetic works by march masters Henry Fillmore and Karl King. Clare Grundman’s “The Blue and the Gray” surveys the music of the Civil War era. Bob Lowden’s “Armed Forces Salute” will honor the nation’s service members and their branches. And Master of Ceremonies Brandon Hollingsworth, from WUOT-FM, will read a moving prepared text over Carmen Dragon’s arrangement of “America the Beautiful.”
Come celebrate the Fourth before the Fourth and enjoy an afternoon of fine music from the Knoxville Community Band. Admission is free, and seating is plentiful.
The Knoxville Community Band is sponsored by the Knoxville Parks and Recreation Department. It gives musicians of all experience levels the opportunity to perform in various concerts, including this summer concert series and other festivals and City events throughout the year.
KCB is directed by Larry Hicks, retired band director of Heritage High School in Maryville. Mark Boring, also retired from the Blount County school system, is the assistant band director.
