Officials of The Pat Summitt Foundation announced their launch of the inaugural Pat Summitt Invitational to be held on Monday, September 26, 2016, at WindRiver Golf Club in Lenoir City, Tenn. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Foundation’s fundraising campaign to support the establishment of The Pat Summitt Alzheimer’s Clinic at The University of Tennessee Medical Center opening in December 2016.
Co-Chairs of the event are University of Tennessee Women’s Athletic Director Emeritus and Foundation Advisory Board Member Joan Cronan with community leader, Knoxville and Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Golfer Ann Furrow. They are inviting area businesses, supporters and fans to show their support of the late Pat Summitt’s mission to make a difference in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by participating as sponsors or foursome teams.
“Ann and I believe this new event provides a great opportunity for both business networking and for area folks who enjoy golf as much as Pat did to honor her memory and her life, said Cronan.” As I have noted often in the days since her passing on June 28, 2016, she told me when she was diagnosed she thought she would be remembered for basketball, but she hoped she would be remembered for making a difference in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.”
The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. with registration and breakfast followed by a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start and conclude with lunch and award presentations to the top 3 teams, longest drive and closest to the pin on a Par 3 hole. Online registration and additional details about the event and sponsorship opportunities are available at www.PatSummitt.org/knoxville.
