On 03/14/2013 at about 4:09 p.m., Officers Roger McNutt and Travis Shuler responded to Parkwest Hospital regarding a male patient that entered the Emergency Room with a stab wound. Officer McNutt briefly spoke with the 55 year-old victim. Although the victim was uncooperative, he reported that he had been stabbed by his wife inside their room at the Extended Stay Motel at 214 Langley Place off N. Peters Road. The victim was taken to surgery and his status was unknown at the time of this release.

Officer Shuler responded to the motel and was able to locate the suspect, Barbara Smith, age 49, and the crime scene inside the motel room. Shuler transported the suspect to the Safety Building and she was interviewed by Investigator Bill Muhlfield, with the KPDFamily Crimes Unit. The interview revealed the two began arguing over prescription medication and the argument escalated to a physical altercation.

The suspect was charged with Aggravated Assault and booked into the Knox County Sheriff’s Detention Facility under $16,500 bond.
