The community is invited to gather Friday, Sept. 4, for “What Dolly Did for Me: A Parade for Our Queen,” a joyful downtown celebration of Dolly Parton’s life, love and legacy.
Following a 6:30 p.m. lineup on the City County Building lawn, the parade will step off at 7 p.m. From there, participants will travel a half-mile route along Main Street, Walnut Street, Cumberland Avenue and Market Street, ending at Market Square.
Led by Cattywampus Puppet Council including “Big Dolly” and its hot-pink community marching band Knox Honkers & Bangers, the procession invites participants to sing, dance and reflect on Dolly’s impact on our region, our world and our own lives.
What did Dolly mean to you? What did she teach you? What piece of her do you want to carry forward?
Participants are encouraged to dress bold and colorful and bring signs, art, flowers or other offerings. The parade will end in Market Square near the Dolly Parton mural in Strong Alley, where offerings may be left in her memory.
