By hosting its nationwide Lend A Paw fundraiser and adoption event, the pet supply retailer prepares to bring abandoned animals closer to loving homes

As “National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day” approaches on Saturday, April 30, Pet Supermarket, a specialty pet supply retailer with over 200 stores across the U.S. Southeast, is continuing its commitment to local rescues and shelters. From Friday, May 6, to Sunday, May 22, Pet Supermarket’s Lend A Pawfundraiser gives pet parents the opportunity to support abandoned animals in need of food, shelter and veterinary care.

During the fundraiser, visitors to all Pet Supermarket locations can contribute to the rescues and shelters in their communities by:

  • purchasing a $5 limited-edition bandana and showing off their pet’s style on social media with the hashtag #LendAPawForPets,
  • providing a monetary donation of their choosing at checkout,
  • adopting an animal in need from their local Pet Supermarket at the storewide adoption event on Saturday, May 21.

All proceeds from bandana sales and donations will be divided among 14 rescues and shelters in Pet Supermarket’s service areas. They will be used to support animals like Jack, a kitten in the care of Planned PEThood of Georgia (Duluth, Georgia) that was treated for kidney failure before finding his “furever” home.

“Donations from supporters allowed Jack to get the medical care he needed, including a costly ultrasound, to identify his condition,” according to the rescue. “Without donations and support from companies like Pet Supermarket, Jack would not have been able to get the medical care needed to identify his medical needs and set him up for success.”

Additional recipient rescues and shelters include: Florida Pointers Rescue (New Smyrna Beach, Florida), Gulf Coast Humane Society (Fort Myers, Florida), Humane Society of Greater Miami (North Miami Beach, Florida), Lucky Cat Adoptions (Fleming Island, Florida), Mission K9 Rescue (Needville, Texas), PAWsitive Supporters (Marietta, Georgia), Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League (West Palm Beach, Florida), Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando (Orlando, Florida), Pita & Pecan’s Animal Refuge (Hayden, Alabama), Saving Sage Animal Rescue Foundation (Fort Lauderdale, Florida), Stepping Stones Canine Rescue (Winston-Salem, North Carolina), Southeastern Guide Dogs (Palmetto, Florida) and Young-Williams Animal Center (Knoxville, Tennessee).

Through Pet Supermarket’s charitable giving initiatives, the retailer has raised over $750,000 in just the last year for rescues, shelters and canine military heroes.

“Friendship and loyalty are the foundations that pets provide us,” said Jonathan Rodriguez, Pet Supermarket’s Senior Manager of Campaign Strategy and Creative Development. “As an organization, Pet Supermarket is proud return the favor to the pets in our communities by strengthening local rescues and shelters.”
