Volunteer Bell Ringers Needed Through December 23

The Salvation Army’s 2017 Red Kettle Campaign is quickly coming to an end with the annual fundraiser ending on Saturday, December 23. While donations have been up from this point in 2016, they are still below this year’s budget. The main reason behind the kettles being below budget is the inability to staff all of the organization’s kettle locations.

“We’re excited that the campaign has done well this year but we still need one final push to get us to our goal,” said Knoxville Area Commander, Major David Worthy. “The red kettles are a symbol of giving and represent a tradition of caring that is passed down from generation to generation. We’re encouraging shoppers to remember their neighbors in need when they see a Salvation Army Red Kettle in the coming days and be as generous as they can by volunteering to ring a bell or by making a donation at a kettle.”

The Salvation Army’s Knoxville Area Command has over 70 kettle locations all over Knoxville. This week, however, the organization is struggling to staff much more than 35-40 locations prompting the need for additional volunteers. Kettles are staffed from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Bell ringing shifts are available every day through December 23 in all parts of Knoxville. Anyone interested in volunteering to ring a bell is asked to call (865) 971-4937 before 2 p.m. on Friday, December 22.
