Drive-through food drive hosted at West Town Mall during Hunger Action Month

Join Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee on Thursday, September 24 for the inaugural Drive Up and Drop Off Food Drive. This event takes place from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at West Town Mall near Women’s Belk (at the Montvue Road entrance, 7600 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tenn. 37919). A Second Harvest Food Bank truck and staff members will collect nonperishable food items and funds. You never have to exit your vehicle to make a donation!

Items the food bank regularly needs:

  • Peanut butter
  • Canned protein – tuna, salmon, chicken and pasta sauce with meat
  • Canned fruit – pineapple, peaches, pears in their own juices or light syrup
  • Canned vegetables – mixed veggies, green beans, corn
  • Soup – beef stew, chili, chicken noodle, turkey and rice

“We are so excited to offer an ‘event’ people can safely attend and take action in the fight to end hunger at the same time,” said Executive Director, Elaine Streno. “Second Harvest is serving thousands of additional people at this time due to the pandemic. Every can, every dollar, every donation truly makes a difference in someone’s life. Every action in the fight to end hunger makes a significant impact.”

September is Hunger Action Month, and Feeding America’s nationwide network (which includes Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee) uses Hunger Action Month as an awareness driver. It is designed to mobilize the public to take action on the issue of hunger. All month long, Second Harvest aims to give East Tennesseans actions to take in the fight to end hunger in this region. Donating to the Drive Up and Drop Off Food Drive is one way to take action this September!

Second Harvest employees will wear masks when taking food and fund donations from donors.
