This weekend’s Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon events will bring together as many as 9,000 participants, dozens of cheering volunteers and hundreds of fans urging runners toward the finish line.
All race events begin on the Clinch Avenue Viaduct in front of the main entrance to the Knoxville Convention Center. The mile-long Kids Run starts at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, followed by the 5K (3.1 miles) at 7 p.m. The full 26.2-mile marathon, the half (13.1 miles) and the relays start at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, March 25.
In anticipation of the race events, on-street parking will be prohibited on Clinch Avenue between World’s Fair Park Drive and 17th Street for 24 hours starting at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 24. And no parking will be allowed on the northbound lanes of Gay Street between Hill Avenue and Summit Hill Drive on Sunday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Northbound lanes of Gay Street between Blount Avenue and Summit Hill will be closed to traffic from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
A temporary no-parking zone on Clinch Avenue will start at 5 p.m. Saturday. Clinch Avenue between Henley and 11th streets will be closed, starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24. The street will reopen at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 25.
The full marathon route extends as far west as Forest Park Boulevard in Bearden, south to Ijams Nature Center and east through the Parkridge and Fourth and Gill neighborhoods. Several locations along the route will host bands performing live music to entertain cheering sections and inspire runners as they pass.
Rolling road and lane closures will follow the race route, so motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and consider alternate routes. A turn-by-turn rundown of the race route is attached, and more information is available at www.knoxvillemarathon.com.
