Irvey’s Ice Cream to celebrate grand opening in Fountain City
By Ken Lay
Irvey’s Ice Cream is coming to North Knoxville.
The shop, located in Fountain City at 3000 Tazewell Pike, will have a three-day grand opening this weekend and will take place Oct. 9-11.
It will be a second location for Irvey’s, which also has a spot at Kerns Food Hall in South Knoxville. The business also operates three food trucks and an ice cream van.
Irvey’s owner Trent Sanders is looking forward to opening a location in Fountain City.
“Fountain City has been a destination since The Creamery burned down,” Sanders said. “We’re going to be in a great corridor with Louis’ and Sweet P’s and Pratt’s.”
Sanders has been active in the community for some time.
“We were at the Fountain City Christmas Parade, and that was a lot of fun,” he said. “And we’ve done things with Fellowship North and Shannondale Elementary School.”
The grand opening celebration begins Friday with a bubble day. Later, the bubbles will give way to yard games such as corn hole.
“On Friday, we’re going to enjoy some ice cream and blow some bubbles. It will be fun for the whole family,” Sanders said. “Then, we’ll have some lawn games for the adults.”
The bubble day begins at 3 p.m. The lawn games will get underway at 6 p.m.
“People will need to bring their own lawn chairs and we’ll have plenty of wet wipes,” he said.
On Saturday, Oct. 10, the activities will include chalk art, and on Sunday, patrons will be treated to music, and there will be either balloon animals or face painting for children.
Those who attend the grand opening festivities will be eligible to win Irvey’s Ice Cream or merchandise.
“If they go to Google and leave a review on Google and show it to us, they’ll have the chance to win a $500 gift card or Irvey’s merchandise,” Sanders said. “We’ll do the drawing on Monday, following the grand opening.”
Irvey’s will offer one-gallon and two-and-a-half-gallon tubs of ice cream, as well as gluten-free and waffle cones, waffle bowls, one-gallon tubs and T-shirts. The shop will also offer a birthday package.
“We’ll have a birthday party in a bag,” Sanders said. “It will also have toppings, and it’s going to be a reasonable price per person.”
Irvey’s will also have wholesale prices for restaurants.
The grand opening menu will feature 18 classic flavors, 10 dairy-free scoops and four limited scoops, including a pickle-flavored ice cream. Irvey’s will also offer ice cream flights (four scoops), share-a-bowls (10 scoops), shakes and floats.
