Hey Bella and Jonah, Take a bow!
By Steve Williams
Whew! Bella Lawson has been a busy young lady in her high school career at The King’s Academy.
It really began 13 years ago when she started cheering around five years old.
She ended up being the cheer captain for three years at TKA and a UCA All-American in the Universal Cheerleaders Association.
“Bella is an amazing athlete and Christ-centered young lady,” said Natoisha Hager, the cheer coach at the academy in Seymour. “This past season she helped propel her cheerleading team to win a regional championship and to become Top 20 at the National High School Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Florida for the second time.”
Coach Hager also touched on Lawson’s participation in golf and track as well as cheerleading and noted that she was a TSSAA Regional golf qualifier and served as team captain of the golf team, too.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to watch her grow as an athlete and a person for the past four years!”
Athletic Secretary Cyndie Webber submitted Lawson and Jonah Weber as TKA’s female and male Student-Athletes of the Year and both were outstanding choices.
Bella also had played golf since elementary school and her game garnered a fifth place showing in the region tournament this spring.
Lawson also got involved in track and field for the first time her junior year.
In addition to athletics, Bella graduated with high honors and was in the Top 10 percent of her class.
Much more also came her way. She was President of her Senior Class, the Teen Board of Knoxville’s Distinguished Teen of the Year, a member of the NHS, Beta Club and Honors Choir plus an ETSU faculty memorial scholarship recipient.
Weber certainly has an outstanding list of honors as well.
In academics, he had all As on the Honor Roll and was Salutatorian.
Jonah also received Highest Grade Awards for Honors Pre Calculus and Computer Science and was the recipient of the William F. Hall Memorial Award for highest GPA this year.
On the athletic side, Weber was All-District, All-Region and All-State in tennis.
“As a coach, it has been an honor to watch Jonah grow into the exceptional young man and Christ honoring athlete that he is,” said Jenny Cook. “He set his goal on reaching state each year and stayed focused through each workout, practice and match to get there. He and his doubles partner not only got there this year, but they took the state champion title! So proud!”
Weber will be going to the University of Tennessee to study Business and Dentistry. He plans to play club tennis.
As for Bella, she will be attending East Tennessee State University and major in Nursing with hopes to obtain an advanced Nursing degree. She plans to participate in intramural sports.
