Preschoolers invited to Parents as Teachers’ Roll & Read
The Parents as Teachers’ 8th annual Roll & Read event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 26 at Safety City, 165 S. Concord Street.
Roll & Read is for families with children five years and younger. Admission, parking and all activities at the event are free. You do not have to be a Parents as Teachers program participant to attend the Roll & Read event.
This year’s theme is Pirates & Mermaids. Books will be read throughout the event, along with fun learning activities and free giveaways. More than 20 community vendors will be in attendance. Children will participate in fun activities such as face painting, making pirate hats, and painting seashell necklaces. Pirate and mermaid themed books will also be read at the event to encourage families to read with their children at home.
“As a parent, you are your child’s first and most important teacher,” said Parents as Teachers’ Program Manager Christel Crawford. “When you read with your child, you are not only preparing them for school but also creating a love of learning that will help them in all aspects of their life.”
Parents as Teachers is a prenatal to kindergarten home-visiting program that empowers parents to ensure their young children have the best opportunity to succeed in school and in life.
