Free Public Performance | Wednesday, February 4, 2026

Concord United Methodist Church is excited to welcome WordPlayers for a special performance of The Ends We Seek on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 6:30–7:30 PM in the Worship Center. A free meal will be provided from 5:30–6:20 PM prior to the performance.

The Ends We Seek proclaims a Gospel-driven message of equality inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s conviction that “the means must be as pure as the ends we seek.” Blending hip-hop and soulful music with challenging historical fiction, the performance presents a creative case study of Christian ethics amid some of the most difficult chapters in American history—struggles that continue to shape our society today.

Both humorous and heavy, The Ends We Seek moves the familiar question “What would Jesus do?” beyond slogans and into the lived reality of blood, sweat, tears, and uncertainty—where steadfast love and forgiveness are tested and justice is under attack. The performance asks a haunting question: Will “tomorrow” become the reality we strive for, or will it remain a distant “someday”?

Through the intertwined stories of a mother and son living in two different centuries, The Ends We Seek explores how major national events ripple into the everyday lives of individuals and families. Set against true historical moments from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the production draws audiences into scenes where personal choices collide with national decisions, revealing moments of resilience, tension, and hope. Featuring sharp dialogue inspired by real stories and captivating musical interludes, the experience goes far beyond traditional education.

Suggested for audiences grades 6 and up, The Ends We Seek encourages reflection, meaningful conversation, and a deeper understanding of how history continues to shape the present.
