Talman wants city, county to work together

“We’re going to work together with our neighbors on the county side in a partnership,” promised mayoral candidate Jeff Talman on Thursday. Talman and his wife, Jennifer, were speaking with supporters during their Get Out The Vote rally at the Arcade Building on South Gay Street.
The 5 p.m. event saw Talman and his supporters greeting and chatting with those who attended, including current and past city and county officials.
“We’re going to look at the Department of Redundancies,” Talman said when asked about possibly combining more city and county functions and departments.
Talman is running for city mayor with the goals of creating “economic opportunities through a business-friendly environment and job creation, not by raising your property taxes, and by supporting our KPD to keep our communities, and most vulnerable, safe.”
Early voting began Wednesday and Talman faces incumbent Mayor Indya Kincannon, Constance Every and R. C. Lawhorn in the race. If the winner of the August 29 non-partisan primary receives 50% plus one vote they would go onto the General Election as the only name on the ballot for Knoxville City Mayor and their only opposition could be a write-in candidate.
