Statewide wine and spirits distributor to bring 80 jobs, invest $13 Million

Maryville, Tenn. – B & T Distributing Company announced Wednesday it is purchasing 20.75 acres of land in the Blount County Industrial Park on Mount Tabor Road in Maryville, Tenn., to relocate its regional headquarters and distribution center. The new location will bring 80 jobs and represents a $13 million investment.

The wine and spirits distributor, which services over 1,000 wine & spirits stores, grocery stores, bars and restaurants in middle and East Tennessee, has been located in Knoxville since 1961. After being acquired by Kahn Ventures, Inc., earlier this year, it joined Horizon Wine & Spirits and Delta Wholesale to create the first fully operational statewide distributor network in the state of Tennessee.

“We were seeking a larger warehouse area for our expanding distribution network and decided this parcel of land in Blount County met our expectations as we look toward the future of our company,” said B & T Distributing President David H. Henry. “We thank the leadership in Blount County for their hospitality and partnership. We feel this move will allow us to continue to increase our market share and become more efficient in our delivery system.”

Part of the deal, which has no incentives from the Blount County Economic Development Board or the county and city, includes a $10 million investment in the construction of a 170,000-square foot facility and a $3 million investment in equipment to be located in the facility.

Additionally, B & T Distributing expects to employ 80 teammates including sales, administrative, warehouse and driver personnel.

“It’s an exciting day when I get to welcome a new corporate citizen to Blount County,” said Blount County Mayor Ed Mitchell. “We pride ourselves on building relationships and expanding the wide array of businesses that chose to the make this wonderful community their home. We have created a great working culture among our cities and municipalities that makes this an outstanding place to do business and I welcome B & T Distributing to the ranks of the many quality companies we have here.”

The selection of the site was the result of a detailed site evaluation process. With the available land to build its desired facility, B & T Distributing made its decision to locate in the Blount County Industrial Park. The company plans to begin site construction immediately and open its operations in late 2017.

The larger facility is vital to B & T’s expanded distribution network as well as needed office space for its employees.

“When companies locate in our city and this county, they’ve not only found a great place to do business, but a great place to live,” said Maryville Mayor Tom Taylor. “We are honored B & T Distributing chose Maryville and we look forward to working with them for years to come.”

Since April 2010, the Blount Partnership has helped bring in over 4000 jobs that pay above the state of Tennessee’s average salary of $41,567 and nearly $1.5 billion of capital investment to the county.

“We are thrilled about B & T Distributing’s relocation and commitment to this community,” said Chair of the Blount County Economic Development Board Fred Lawson. “Not only are they making an investment in a facility, but bringing in good salaried jobs as well.”
