‘Bags’ to include cornhole tournament on June 19 and family-friendly celebration on June 20

Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee (BBBS-ETN) will host its first-ever Bags for Kids’ Sake event from June 19-20.

The Saturday event, which takes place at Next Level Brewing starting at noon, includes a double-elimination cornhole tournament. The Sunday, family-friendly celebration at Zoo Knoxville features one-hour time slots for cornhole games between noon and 4 p.m.

Bags for Kids’ Sake is the agency’s first in-person fundraiser in more than 18 months.

‘Bags’ replaces Bowl for Kids’ Sake in 2021 — BBBS-ETN’s largest and longest-running fundraiser which is set to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2022. Last year, the event was canceled due to COVID-19, resulting in a loss of more than $100,000 in revenue for the agency.

“We are thrilled to host Bags for Kids’ Sake, our first in-person fundraiser in more than a year,” said Chief Executive Officer Brent Waugh. “Canceling all 2020 events was extremely difficult on Big Brothers Big Sisters, at a time when our services were more vital than ever before. All funds raised at ‘Bags’ will immediately go to matching youth with a mentor and connecting families with essential services.”
Bags for Kids’ Sake will take place entirely outdoors, and guests will remain distanced. Masks will not be required, but non-vaccinated attendees are encouraged to wear facial coverings, per CDC recommendations.
