CareCuts of Knoxville to Benefit
WDVX is teaming up with other sponsors again this year to bring help to those less fortunate in downtown Knoxville with a food and food drive benefitting CareCuts of Knoxville, serving Knoxville’s unhoused neighbors with love, care, and essential services. After collecting over 750 pieces of gently used clothing for CareCuts for last year’s inaugural “Capricornucopia” clothes drive, far exceeding their original goal of 200 coats and jackets, this year’s donation drive is also asking for simple food items, in addition to men’s and women’s pants and jeans, and jackets. Items requested include; red & blue powder Gatorade, Slim Jims, Pop Tarts, pop top cans of Vienna Sausages, cheese and/or peanut butter crackers. The drop-off point is an Outlaw Light Beer bin just inside Barley’s front door in the Old City. The food and clothes drive will last until January 2, 2026.
The annual “Capricornucopia” concert and celebration happens Sunday, December 28th at 7 p.m. at Barley’s, and features Knoxville’s Mic Harrison and the High Score, with NYC’s Doug Gillard (Guided By Voices), and special appearances by Emi Sunshine, Andy Pirkle, and Sarrenna. Harrison and his band are supporting their new album ‘Peach Blossom Youth,’ produced by legendary Americana producer and guitarist, Eric “Roscoe” Ambel. The show will feature special performances with the band, and it is an all-ages show. Admission charge is a suggested $10 door donation to CareCuts, or a pair of men’s or women’s blue jeans. Raffle prizes will be given between sets. Mic and other musicians are available for interviews and/or live performances or appearances to promote the show and food/clothes drive.
After a very successful 2024 clothes drive and concert, event organizer Benny Smith from WDVX said that last year’s amazing success made this year’s food and clothes drive a must-do, again. “Knoxville showed up and showed out last year, shattering our request for 200 coats, allowing us to donate over 750 pieces of clothing, and $2000 to CareCuts. We want to continue to help Barley’s downtown neighbors, and this is the perfect way to do it, and help raise awareness for the great work that Marti and her CareCuts crew do for Knoxville’s unhoused population. Sponsors for “Capricornucopia 2025” are WDVX, X Hunger, Garza Law, Blank Newspaper, Lipman Brothers LLC, Barley’s, and Glover Design.
