With the petition deadline about a week away, the number of Knox County candidate hopefuls is growing. February 19 is the filing deadline, with Feb. 26 set for withdrawing from a race. The primary is Tuesday, May 5, with early voting starting on April 15.

A lot of the attention is turning to the two at-large seats, where the elected commissioners represent the entire county.

In the primary to replace the term-limited Commissioner Larsen Jay, so far, there are four Republicans: Justin Cofer, Kimberly Glenn, Ronnie Rochelle and Ronin Cunningham. Katina Sharp is the Democrat in that primary.

Commissioner Kim Frazier’s term-limited seat is being sought by three Republicans: Michael Baer, Garrett Holt and Liz Tombras. Vivian Shipe is the Democrat in that primary.

In the District 3 commission primary, incumbent Gina Oster is seeking reelection and is being opposed by Sheri Super. Democrat Brandon Huckaby has a petition for the Democratic Primary.

District 7’s commission primary candidates include Republicans Barry Beeler, Buddy Burkhardt and Justin Mash. Democrat William Cooper has a petition for the seat.
