During the first full week of May each year, Goodwill agencies and community partners across the United States and Canada celebrate National Goodwill Week. During May 1 through 7, Goodwill Industries-Knoxville will be sharing their mission and celebrating their successes through local events and promotions, including Goodwill’s annual Job and Resource Fairs, as well as four special seminars focusing on career development.
The annual Knoxville Job and Resource Fair will be held on Tuesday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Bearden Goodwill, located at 5307 Kingston Pike. Local business representatives will be on-site ready to talk about potential employment opportunities. Confirmed businesses include Aid and Assist, Care Choices of Tennessee, Cerebral Palsy Center, Enterprise, Fifth Third Bank, McDonald’s, Kmart, Walmart, Support Solutions, and Sitel, among others. The job fair is free and open to the public; anybody currently seeking employment is encouraged to attend.
On Thursday, May 5, the Oak Ridge Goodwill, located at 695 Emory Valley Road, will host a similar job fair from 9 a.m. to noon.
Goodwill is also offering four free career and personal development courses throughout National Goodwill, with topics such as resume building and interview skills on May 2, social media and networking on May 3, in-depth financial literacy on May 4, and characteristics needed for promotion on May 5. All classes are offered at the Bearden Goodwill and start at 5:30 p.m. More information is available at www.gwiktn.org.
Throughout the week, customers are invited to ask Goodwill staff about their mission to save 15% on their entire purchase. Staff are prepared to educate customers about Goodwill’s mission to provide vocational services and employment opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment, primarily funded through the sale of donations in Goodwill retail stores.
