Library Lovers Invited to Join Friends for Common Cause

For 50 years the members of the Friends of the Knox County Public Library have believed that they are in the middle of something wonderful.

Friends of the Library are among like-minded citizens who love to learn. They are part of a supportive, positive organization that takes civic pride in its nonpartisan support of the public library because it serves an informed, literate community. The Friends support a resourceful and creative library staff that continues to find new ways of serving the needs of that community when the health of that community is in peril. It’s a staff that redesigns library facilities to protect patrons’ safety, offers a growing collection of materials that can be accessed from home, invents Library to Go, invites carloads to drive-in movies, and invents trivia games that keep citizens engaged and in touch when library programming has to be curtailed.

As part of their 50th anniversary celebration, the Friends recently presented a gift of $50,000 to the library to enhance the collection of ebooks and audiobooks, one of its most-used collections this year. And as they begin their 51st year, they invite you to be among Friends — a committed group of citizens who work together to help keep the Knox County Public Library strong — during their 2020 membership campaign.
