The Knoxville Community Band celebrates spring with a concert this Sunday, May 19, at the World’s Fair Park amphitheater in downtown Knoxville. The concert begins at 3:00 p.m.

The band performs ten tunes, taking listeners from Broadway to Sousa to ragtime. And it’s free! Join the KCB for a Sunday afternoon of fine music for the whole family.

Songs include a medley of Glenn Miller favorites, arranged by Paul Murtha; selections from the hit musical “Les Miserables,” arranged by Warren Barker; a western romp in James Meredith’s “Branding Iron!” and an arrangement of Scott Joplin’s classic “The Entertainer.”

The Knoxville Community Band is sponsored by the Knoxville Parks and Recreation Department. It gives musicians of all experience levels the opportunity to perform in various concerts, including an outdoor concert series during the summer and other festivals and City events throughout the year. A list of upcoming concerts can be found at the link above.

KCB is directed by Larry Hicks, retired band director of Heritage High School in Maryville. Mark Boring, also retired from the Blount County school system, is the assistant band director.
