Membership Meeting
Join us on Friday, February 13th for our next membership meeting. This will take place in our normal meeting location at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
We will be joined by a panel of the following four faith leaders from North Knoxville:
Caleb Gilmore is the Teaching Pastor at Crossings Knoxville, which meets on Sundays at the Square Room in Market Square. He has studied at Christian and Jewish institutions of higher education and has his doctorate in Hebrew Bible and Jewish Studies. His wife, Kristi, and two daughters live and are active in the Oakwood Lincoln Park neighborhood.
Here is Amy Carole Figg Ley in a nutshell: Sinner & Saint, Daughter & Sister, Pastor at St John’s Lutheran Church, Wife & Mom, Dog Lover & KY Wildcat Fan, Rev. & Doc. My personal passions include travel to tropical places, enjoying good food with great friends, and biking on my newly renovated mountain bike (thanks to my wonderfully sneaky husband who surprised me on Christmas Eve)! My professional passions include leadership development of both ordained and lay leaders for the Church, exploration of ministry across eight distinct generations, and justice advocacy.
Jennifer Spieth has been a pastor for the past seven years—two and a half of those years at Washington Pike United Methodist Church. She earned her Bachelor of Music Education from Maryville College in 1997 and a Master of Arts in Teaching Spanish from Middle Tennessee State University in 2000. She loves to learn, and consequently, she is currently in her second year of doctoral work in Biblical Studies (New Testament) at Asbury Theological Seminary. Before becoming a pastor, she was a teacher, and she has taught all levels from pre-school to college in some form or fashion since 1997. Her passions are reading, writing, learning languages, teaching, and sharing the love of Christ with others in discipleship. She and her family have one daughter and two pets: her cat Rose who is almost eighteen years old, and her dog Cricket is nine.
The Rev. John Mark Wiggers moved to Knoxville in September 2009 to become the fifth rector of St. James. He hails from Brewton, Ala., where he grew up in the Southern Baptist tradition. He is a graduate of Baylor University and The General Theological Seminary. After seminary, John Mark served as Curate at The Church of the Nativity in Dothan, Ala., and as the Canon for Education at The Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta.
John Mark and his wife, Liz met at an Adults Who Work with Youth Conference at Kanuga Camp and Conference Center. They have two boys — Jack, a rising financial analyst, and Elliott, a rising high schooler — as well as two dogs and some fish. His family appreciates and participates in his love of grilling. The rector also enjoys reading, music, and anything coffee related. His favorite books are Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore, and The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
We will have a discussion regarding the impact that their ministries have on the North Knoxville community and explore opportunities for collaboration and support.
This will be facilitated by our former president, Nathan Myers. There will also be time allotted for audience questions, so please arrive ready to participate!
Breakfast will be served around 7:45am and our program will begin promptly at 8am. We hope to see you there!
