The King’s Academy enthusiastically announced Coach Sean Jones as the next athletic director for the one hundred and forty-two-year-old institution. Coach Jones joined TKA in the fall of 2020 as the varsity boys basketball coach and development officer. Prior to his time at TKA, Jones spent four years at Maryville College as an assistant men’s basketball coach. During his time at Maryville, he served as head coach of the JV program and was part of back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament in 2017-18 and 2018-19. Jones graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2013 with a degree in communications as well as from James Madison University with a master’s degree in sports and recreation leadership in 2016.

King’s Academy President Jeremy Sandefur said of Coach Jones: “When looking for an athletic director our goals were simple; we prayerfully searched for a candidate that understood our faith-based mission, deep-rooted history, and ability to lead our student athletes and coaches to success both on and off the court/field of competition. It became abundantly clear through the search process that our very own Coach Sean Jones embodied those qualities and was the right person for this position.”

Of the opportunity, Coach Jones believes: “We have an amazing opportunity to serve TKA through our athletic programs, and I thank Jeremy Sandefur for entrusting me with that responsibility. Our students and community deserve high-quality experiences in athletics, and I look forward to partnering with our coaches to provide these experiences on our campus. Layne, Ellis and I are so appreciative of the way we have been embraced by TKA and we cannot wait to see what God has in store for this school as we serve in this new role.”

Coach Jones will continue as the varsity boys basketball coach and assume the day to day operations of the athletic department, along with Assistant Director of Athletics Jonathan Sellers, on July 1.
