Family members and well-wishers gathered Tuesday evening, October 14, at a west Knoxville restaurant Scrambled Jake’s to officially launch Knox County Commissioner Gina Oster’s campaign for reelection to a second term on the commission.
“I love this job,” Oster said. “I am honored to serve District 3.” She went on to say, “I never put politics over people.”
After stating she planned on winning, Oster concluded her remarks by vowing, “I will make you proud you supported me.”
“Gina (Oster) is a workhorse,” Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs said as he introduced her. Jacobs called Oster “an absolutely amazing commissioner,” adding, “We need to send her back. “
“I want to continue to get as many roads paved in my district as possible,” Oster told The Focus afterwards. She noted that during her first term, 12 miles of roads were paved. She also wants to replace old water pipes and fire hydrants. She stated that since 2022, $7 million has been spent on infrastructure in District 3.
Oster’s district includes Cedar Bluff, Ball Camp, Bearden and Amherst. She currently serves as commission chair and also serves on the Beer Board, Finance Committee, and chairs the Insolvency Board.
She has held various offices for the Cedar Bluff Schools PTSA. She has served on the Knox County Ethics Committee, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Employees’ Merit System Council, the Knox County Tax Equalization Board, and is a graduate of the District Attorney General’s Citizens Academy.
Oster is a realtor and has served on the Governmental Affairs Committee with the Knoxville Board of Realtors.
She graduated from Karns High School and attended Pellissippi State College before marrying her husband of 34 years, Stan Oster. They have three sons and two grandchildren.
