I Am Disappointed In UT
The University of Tennessee made an announcement that made the national news and startled many Tennesseans. The University of Tennessee announced its Board of Trustees had approved a $1.9 million legal settlement to Tamar Shirinian, a professor at UT who was fired for posting comments on social media following the brutal murder of activist Charlie Kirk on a Utah college campus. Shirinian filed suit after being fired, claiming the university had violated her constitutional rights. Shirinian referred to Kirk in her post as a “disgusting psychopath.”
Tamar Shirinian wrote, “The world is better off without him in it.” The professor then added, “His kids are better off living in a world without a disgusting psychopath like him and his wife, well she’s a sick f— for marrying him so I don’t care about her feelings.” But, of course, Tamar wanted everyone to care about her feelings, as I seem to recall she complained that she was getting death threats following her post. Evidently, it never occurred to her that there might be people who might think the same of her as she thought of Charlie Kirk. Apparently, it never occurred to Tamar that some people might say the same about her kids and her husband having married her.
After the backlash and when it became clear UT intended to fire her, she whined that she had been “insensitive” and claimed her comments were “uncharacteristic of me as a person.” Had someone said it of her, Leftist heads would have exploded, and they would have likely tried to sponsor a riot, claiming she had been the victim of hate speech. They would have been right that it was certainly hateful speech. Just because Tamar is a minority doesn’t mean she has immunity from being hateful or from giving voice to her own hatred of other people, whether they are white, black, brown, yellow or pink. Universities all across the country have loudly proclaimed from every ivory tower that they are citadels against “hate speech” and would not tolerate it. Yet college campuses are cesspools of hate where Leftists tolerate no dissent from their selected narratives. Everyone must drink the Kool-Aid or they should die. College and university campuses in this country have become a mockery of “safe spaces” for Leftist snowflakes. In truth, campuses are far less safe for Republicans, conservatives, Christians and Jews.
The US Supreme Court has consistently ruled that “hate speech” is protected under the constitutional right to free speech. It may well be that UT decided in retrospect it could not properly defend a lawsuit or that, in the long run, it was cheaper to settle irrespective of how it might have come out. Still, what Tamar Shirinian said was absolutely vile, hateful and certainly does call into question the core of her own character.
Very few details have been made public about the substance of the Board of Trustees meeting, so we are left to surmise why they chose the settlement as a resolution to the matter. The university employs a slew of lawyers and perhaps it would be wise to consult with legal counsel before making any final decision and taking a course of action that won’t hold up in a court of law. And it is a fact that we now live in a world where most attorneys are less litigators than settlers.
Of course, if Tamar Shirinian’s speech is protected, so is everyone else’s. The only decision in the entire mess that is not at all questionable is UT’s firm decision that Shirinian will NOT be reinstated. Good riddance!
Has The Democratic Party Ever Heard Of Background Checks?
Another blatant hypocrisy of the Left is the attitude toward one of their heroes: Graham Platner, who, as this is written, has suspended his campaign but is still the Democratic nominee for the US Senate in Maine. Platner’s campaign has finally imploded following a highly credible account by a former girlfriend of having been raped, which the New York Times tried to downplay, if not actually bury. How anybody can possibly be surprised by Platner’s implosion is beyond me. Here is a candidate with a Nazi tattoo on his chest, which was ignored by the Left and considering how antisemitic they have become, that’s no surprise. The new litmus test to be one of the cool kids on the Left is to hate Israel and Jews. It’s quite ironic that they call Republicans Nazis when they try to defend the actions of Hamas and actually support terrorists who raped and brutally murdered babies, young girls and women. The Left is seemingly deaf to those cries. They wail “genocide” without obviously understanding the very meaning of the word.
Even the stupidest member of the panel of harpies that make up “The View” has acknowledged that Platner was racist, homophobic, and an anti-Semite. Platner himself dismissed another politician as human garbage for having cheated on his wife. Of course, that was before it became public knowledge about his own habit of sexting other women while married to his wife.
Yet Sunny Hostin said she would still vote for him. The fact that a group of failed entertainers is opining on politics and public policy every day doesn’t make it a “news” show. Although the once “big three networks” have set precedents for it. Chuck Todd, hosting “Meet the Press,” was pretty much like having a biased Bozo the Clown as a moderator. And there was Bozo’s challenged baby, Brian Stelter.
It’s well past time the FCC looked into what is clearly political propaganda for the Democrat/socialist party. If Whoopi Goldberg is a news anchor, go ahead and give her the desk job for the ABC nightly news. Don’t hold your breath waiting for that to happen, although we probably aren’t far from it.
The same people on the Left who cried crocodile tears as they squalled, “Women must be believed!” have finally been revealed to be quite selective in who and what they believe. Evidently, no complaint by a Republican woman is to be believed under any circumstance. As Bernie Sanders, Ro Khanna, and the other Leftist roaches jump overboard and say they no longer support Graham Platner, people should stop and ask, why not? He’s the same guy he’s always been. Perhaps it is a coincidence, but the abandonment of Platner by the elitist Left occurs just as a new poll showing him trailing Senator Susan Collins was released.
The New York Times didn’t completely smother its own story, which appears almost certainly to have been written to protect Platner. They couldn’t suppress the truth, which has been obvious to anybody who wasn’t either a moron or a fool, and now the socialists are scrambling to find another make-believe “man of the people.” Good luck with that. They wouldn’t know one if he came up and kicked them in the butt.
All eyes look towards Maine for Graham Platner 2.0. The Leftists, socialists and communists, and their minions in the mainstream media will tell us that he or she is the very second coming. Better than the wheel, sliced bread, or medicines that work, plenty to eat, freedom to choose or the fruits of capitalism. In other words, those things that really don’t exist in socialist and communist countries. Evidently, you can fool some of the people all of the time.
