Socialists and communists don’t make things; they take things.
Greg Gutfeld
By Dr. Jim Ferguson
By the time you read this essay, the 250th anniversary of America’s founding will have passed, but the Ferguson clan remains proud to be Americans. To commemorate our country’s founding and the sacrifices that made this country the GOAT (greatest of all time), Becky and I reread the Declaration of Independence and the preamble to the Constitution and sang “America the Beautiful” and “God Bless America,” which Becky thinks would be a great national anthem. We cooked hamburgers on the grill with friends, had sides of french fries, watermelon and homemade ice cream and apple pie. Real Americana. We finished the celebration with the fireworks above the Tennessee River.
How pathetic that so many Democrats hate our country and say they are not proud to be Americans. I have never read of anyone trying to get into North Korea, China or Russia. However, the world keeps trying to come here. Why don’t the leftists of The View and those who hate America just leave?
The Founders of our country studied history and avoided the abuses of ancient democracies by constructing a representative republic founded upon the rule of law. Unfortunately, like all other facets of our country, the rule of law is under attack by anarchists and the dysfunctional judicial system.
History offers many comparisons between the American Revolution and others, notably China’s communist revolution. The signers of the Declaration of Independence spoke of liberty. The Chinese espoused liberation. Both promised a new order and succeeded. However, in America, men became free, whereas in China, men became enslaved to the state. Why?
I believe the answer is that our revolution championed the notion that rights come from God, not from man. Our “unalienable rights” derived from biblical principles rather than Marxist ideology.
What’s wrong with Democrats? But the question presupposes that the Democratic Party still exists. Historically, there was the party of FDR and JFK. There was once a group of “moderate and conservative Democrats” in the People’s House who called themselves Blue Dog Democrats, but I wonder if these still exist. If so, their silence is deafening.
Harold Ford Jr. and John Fetterman are perhaps Democrats in the traditional sense, but they seem like remnants of another time. They and others still march under the Democrat ensign, but they do so without power. The real power and energy are with the Democrat Socialists who use the Democratic Party’s money and structure like a parasite and will eventually destroy the host. Even progressives are cowed by these radical socialists.
So-called traditionalist Democrat politicians dare not speak against the leftist radicals, or they will be primaried as happened in New York. Fetterman is already ostracized and will be primaried. Democrat Socialists are threatening House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Cheeseburger Schumer of the Senate. The Democrats created this monster to take TDS to the streets, and now it’s going nationwide and coming for them. Watch out, Harold!
History teaches us about the radical Jacobins whose mob rule in the French Revolution produced the guillotine and the perversions of Robespierre’s “reign of terror,” until the mob turned on him and took off his head. More recently, Martin Niemoller, a Lutheran minister of the German Nazi era, warned about radicals in his pensive and reflective First They Came discourse. Look it up and consider our present-day Jacobins.
It has been 250 years since the Declaration of Independence espoused the acme of Enlightenment thought. And after eight years of bloody war, there were truly “no kings” in America. Have we forgotten the lessons of history? Perhaps they were never taught to our children in recent decades.
As I listen to the cries of younglings voicing support for socialism, I think of Vladimir Lenin, who said: “The goal of socialism is communism.” I wonder how many could give a succinct definition of socialism, communism or capitalism?
George Orwell understood socialism/communism. In his seminal book “1984,” he said, “It was always the women, and above all the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the Party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies and nosers-out of unorthodoxy.” Our modern-day equivalents are the “AWFULs,” the affluent, white, female, urban liberals.
Socialist/communist Bernie Sanders understands what is going on. He just wants to remain one of the elite, as in the communist party’s politburo, enjoying his four houses and his millions of dollars he acquired on a congressional salary. Similarly, limousine liberal, beer-sipping Pocahontas depends on the poorly educated and whines about the success of Elon Musk, whose employees became millionaires with SpaceX.
And now the Bernie-bro communists are taking their communism, euphemistically disguised as Democrat Socialism (DS), to Colorado, Wisconsin and Michigan. The DS will burn down the so-called “big tent” of Democrats.
Videographer Ken Burns recently wrote in the NY Post, “We speak constantly about rights and far less about obligations. We celebrate freedom but often resist the real work that makes freedom sustainable: shared sacrifice, civic participation, the discipline of self-government.” I would add adherence to the Constitution.
Like most of us, I get weary of the war against evil in all its forms. But like President Trump, I press on and think about the Apostle Paul on trial for his life, who told his protégé Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight, I finished the race, I have kept the faith.” I have adopted Paul’s thoughts but changed his verbs to the future tense: I will fight the good fight, I will finish the race, I will keep the faith.
So I will close where I began with the stirring lyrics:
God Bless America. Land that I love.
Stand beside her and guide her
through the night with the Light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam,
God bless America,
My home sweet home.
May we dedicate ourselves to these noble words and the tasks before us.
