God’s Great Love

By Ralphine Major

It is often celebrated with cards and candy, special dinners, and red roses. The short month of February brings the much-anticipated Valentine’s Day holiday.

Love. Songs and stories have been written about it; movies have been made about it. There are so many facets to the small, four-letter word. There is love for family, love for friends, and love for mankind. The focus of Valentine’s Day is generally that of romantic love.

The greatest love, however, is God’s love, also known as agape love. God’s love came to man in the form of a tiny baby born in a manger. This love was celebrated recently at Christmas. The baby was God’s son, Jesus. He grew to be a man and was crucified on a cruel cross. But, three days later, he rose from the grave. Because of his resurrection, Christians can have eternal life. This love will be celebrated in a few weeks at Easter. There is no better verse in all of the Bible to tell of God’s great love for man than the inspiring words found in the Book of John. The often-quoted scripture is, once again, the selection in this week’s focus on love.

Words of Faith: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 (KJV).
