The first week of the New Year 2016 I was whining and moaning and groaning because things were not working out the way I thought they should. Once again my little book “My Daily Psalms & Prayers” came to my rescue.
This is what it said on January 6th.
“Dear Heavenly Father, you could not give me better comfort or assurance today than the promise that you, yourself, will remain with me. I can go forward into any situation or encounter–into the unknown, the dreaded, the eagerly anticipated….indeed, anything!–and I know that you will go with me through it. And then, on the other side of it, you’ll still be there, ready to lead me onward. How good it is to belong to you and be kept safe by you!”
What awesome words to cheer one’s self up! How great to know that there are others who have tribulations, cares, and unhappiness that are much worse than mine. I don’t mean that I’m glad they have those cares, I meanthat I am not the only one that has fears, flaws, and regrets. I give them to God who promised me He would take care of them. What a comforting thought and well worth the time to spend thanking Him for His care.
“Abide with me–fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens–Lord. with me abide!
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me!”
Henry F. Lyte, a Scottish hymn writer and poet.
Thought for the day: If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.
