Just in time for the 2022 Synchronous Fireflies Event in the Great Smoky Mountains set for June 3-10 is the release of “Piddle Diddle, the Widdle Penguin, and the Synchronous Fireflies of the Great Smoky Mountains,” a fun and educational book for children to learn about one of nature’s most spectacular displays.

Each year, thousands of people vie for a limited number of tickets for the week-long viewing of the amazing fireflies.  Synchronized fireflies light up all at the same time and then go dim at the same time.  It is truly one of nature’s most spectacular demonstrations.  This unique happening occurs only once a year at a remote setting called Elkmont which was once a thriving logging camp.  Elkmont is close to the tourist towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge where Piddle Diddle, the Widdle Penguin, and her family enjoy a vacation.  Piddle Diddle, the Widdle Penguin, is a registered trademark.
