The Promise of 2023

By Ralphine Major

What a season for Tennessee football! It has seen the highest of highs—a victory over rival Alabama halting a 15-year run by the Crimson Tide. It has seen the lowest of lows—a huge, devastating loss to South Carolina. As the curtain closes on the final game of the season, it seems like so much promise has been lost. It is human nature to want to win; it is much harder to deal with loss.

Names like Heupel, Hyatt, and Hooker became recognized in a new light after the Alabama win when fans stormed the field and carried the goalpost down Cumberland Avenue. From the coach to the quarterback, we have seen great leadership through it all. Though heartbreaking to see The University of Tennessee (UT) quarterback go out with a season-ending injury, Hooker has shown the courage and faith to overcome this latest adversity. It was inspiring to learn about the religious children’s book he and his brother wrote. Recently, the sad news about the death of Coach Mike Leach may have been a reminder to UT fans that he was once under consideration to be Tennessee’s coach until Jeremy Pruitt was hired. Current UT Coach Heupel played quarterback for Leach.

Football is much like the game of life. There are good times and times that are not so good. As we come to the end of 2022, may incredible blessings come your way in 2023! Happy New Year!
