Qualifying Conditions Should be Made Clear To Potential Candidates
The State Republican Party, through chairman Scott Golden, sent a letter to the state coordinator of elections, Mark Goins. The purpose was to notify Goins that the Tennessee Republican Party was ruling some 249 candidates off the ballot all across the state. Some of the candidates did not meet the criterion set by the state executive committee to qualify as candidates; most had reportedly not paid the qualifying fee, which has been instituted and paid to the state party. That brought some rejoicing from a handful of Leftist loons who overpopulate the other party.
Certainly, there needs to be requirements for someone to become a candidate for public office, and the state executive committee has rightly removed some would-be public officials from the ballot, most notably following the legislature carving up Davidson County into three separate congressional districts. Robby Starbuck and Morgan Ortagus were both ruled off the ballot for failing to meet the residency requirement. Both Tennessee and Knox County have been overly blessed with a host of prospective officials who have moved here from states that are the deepest hue of indigo blue. The world did not begin until these would-be office holders arrived. We have seen some start campaigns when that candidate had not even voted in Knox County.
Representative government can only occur when someone holding office is familiar with the individual communities that comprise the whole of Knox County. There are nine individual districts that make up the Knox County Commission and two at-large seats. It might be a good idea for any prospective candidate for countywide office to be able to point out, say, five of those individual communities on a map as a requirement to get on the ballot. Burlington and Corryton are both inside Knox County, and that’s where the similarities end. Any candidate who can’t tell the difference between Burlington and Corryton hasn’t lived here long enough and should immediately be disqualified for office.
It’s quite easy to tell the newcomers because they never run on local issues when seeking election to local offices like the board of education and the county commission. When not familiar with the individual communities, they tend to run on national issues. We have candidates for Knox County Law Director swear up and down they will end illegal immigration. Of course, that’s absolutely not true, and the truth is the law director has as much to do with halting illegal immigration as most of us do with interstellar space exploration. Still, there seem to be more and more people boarding the next rocket to Pluto. If you are that gullible, you probably shouldn’t be allowed to run for office or vote.
It seems to me that the chair of the state party could do more to better communicate what is required of those who wish to run as Republicans.
I certainly agree that there needs to be requirements. If you’ve never voted in a Republican primary, you should not be able to run as a Republican. If you really want to run for office, run as what you apparently are – – – an Independent or a Democrat masquerading as a Republican. If you haven’t voted in Republican primaries except occasionally, then you should likely turn out to vote more often. The last people we need as officeholders are people who are half-hearted or who haven’t really participated. If the rest of us can get up and go and exercise our privilege of voting, they should as well.
Trump Right On Iran
Considering what’s going on in the world today, here’s a good question for readers: Do you think Adolf Hitler should have been allowed to have a nuclear bomb? What about Idi Amin? There are some folks too crazy to be trusted to have a nuclear bomb, and the late ayatollah was one of them. Iran has been the source of heartache and suffering for a lot of people. Iran has used the billions it got from Barack Obama, along with its oil profits, which escalated when Biden stopped our own booming oil business here in the United States. America’s oil business was just one more thing (on a long, convoluted list) for the lunatic Democratic-Socialists to hate about our country. If you want to make yourself dizzy, try and follow their hypocrisy, which, to their credit, they don’t even remotely try to hide. These days, they squeal that Congress must exercise its war powers before we can deal with Iran, when they uttered not a peep when Obama bombed the crap out of Libya.
Drug Cartels Should Be Destroyed
The Knox County Regional Forensic Center has released some alarming information about a new drug reportedly more deadly than fentanyl. It comes from China and is called cychlorphine and is now here in Tennessee. There have been 28 deaths in East Tennessee related to the new drug from overdoses.
There is some reason to believe the drug entered this country through Venezuela, through the speedboats and other vessels before the US Navy began blowing them out of the water.
