Volunteers, local businesses, and community organizers will gather on Thursday, October 22, at 9:00 AM to plant 37 new trees along the forthcoming SoKno Rail Trail & Art Walk.
Hosted in partnership with Trees Knoxville, Legacy Parks Foundation, The Mortgage Gallery, and Realty Executives South, the volunteer tree-planting event marks a major community milestone in beautifying South Knoxville’s vibrant new linear park and trail system.
Once complete, the 3.8-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail will convert a former freight corridor into a greenway stretching from Chapman Highway to Ijams Nature Center. The project also features a dedicated 1.5-mile Art Walk showcasing murals, sculptures, and community installations between Kern’s Food Hall and the Island Home Park neighborhood.
The 37 newly planted trees will enhance urban canopy coverage, improve local trail ecology, and provide vital shade for future generations of walkers, runners, and cyclists. “Planting trees along the trail invests in the long-term beauty, sustainability, and health of our Knoxville community,” said Melissa Hinten, Executive Director of Trees Knoxville. “We are proud to work alongside Legacy Parks Foundation, Realty Executives South, and The Mortgage Gallery to get our hands dirty and provide some shade and beauty along the trail”
Community members, partners, and media are invited to attend the planting event on Thursday, October 22 at 9:00 AM.
