Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 29, and lasting through Tuesday, May 14, 2013 (weather permitting), KUB and its contractor will close a section of Western Avenue to through traffic between the Keith Avenue intersection and Richmond Avenue as part of an ongoing PACE 10 wastewater collection system improvement construction project in the area. PACE 10 is KUB’s accelerated 10-year wastewater improvement program to aggressively attack the problem of sewer overflows and to provide a wastewater system that can better serve current and future customers. A detour route will be set up around the work zone via Texas Avenue, Heiskell Avenue,
Johnston Street, Tennessee Avenue, and Schofield Street. While this section of Western Avenue will be closed to through traffic, access will be maintained to area businesses and driveways in the work zone. Emergency vehicles will also have access. Signage and traffic
control devices will be placed around the entire construction zone to direct motorists to the detour route. This road closure will be in effect continuously until the completion date.
