Waste Connections, the City’s contractor for household garbage and recycling collection, will be closed today in observation of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thanksgiving is one of only two holidays throughout the year—the other being Christmas Day—that City garbage collection is closed.

While no household garbage collection will take place on Thursday’s holiday, the collection routes will resume the following day, Friday, Nov. 25, with the regular route schedules one day behind. Therefore, households where garbage is regularly collected on Thursdays will be collected on Friday, and Friday’s regular schedule will be run on Saturday.

As usual, City residents are advised to have all garbage and recycling containers out for collection by 7 a.m. on the day of collection.

Downtown garbage and recycling will run regular schedules through the week of Thanksgiving.

While City recycling centers will be open, Goodwill attendants will not be available for assistance or to accept donations on Thursday, Nov. 24. Furthermore, the City’s Solid Waste Management Facility located at 1033 Elm St. will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, through Saturday, Nov. 26.

Regular operating hours and collection schedules for all City waste services will resume on Monday, Nov. 28.
