This Saturday, January 12th, Knox County is partnering with the City of Knoxville, Optimist Club of West Knoxville and the Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad for the “Plug-In to Your Community” electronic-waste recycling event. Saturday’s event will take place rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Chilhowee Park in the MidwayParking Lot on North Beaman Street. The collection event is free of charge and features drive-thru service to make recycling old computers, printers and other electronic-waste as easy as possible. Residents who participate will be eligible to win a wide-screen TV from Best Buy. Items accepted at the event include: computer equipment such as PC systems, CPUs, monitors, mice, keyboards, printers, scanners, laptops, modems, hard drives, speakers, power cords, cables, telephones, power strips, desktop copiers, fax machines, cell phones, toner/ink cartridges, radios, microwaves,
stereos, vacuum cleaners and rechargeable batteries. Please note there are several items that will not be accepted at the event, including: any size refrigerators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, smoke detectors, thermostats, light bulbs, electronic equipment containing hazardous chemicals, stoves, scrap metal, aluminum cans, cardboard, phone books and paper. This has been a popular event in the past, so residents are encouraged to come out as early as possible to ensure the timely disposal of their e-waste.
There is no charge to drop off your electronic-waste, but donations will be accepted to benefit the Optimist Club of West Knoxville and the Volunteer Rescue Squad. Other sponsors of the event include the City of Knoxville, Creative Recycling, Best Buy, WBIR-TV and B97.5. For more information visit http://www.knoxcounty.org/news/index.php?id=210
