Voter turnout so far in the Knoxville City Council Primary election has been poor, and each of the five races could be decided by a small margin. The campaigns conclude on Tuesday, the primary Election Day, and the top two candidates will go on to the general election on November 4.

Only voters registered in Districts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 may vote in the election and must do so at their designated local precincts. Election Coordinator Chris Davis is asking voters to be considerate when voting at any of the public schools, which will remain open during Tuesday’s election. The polls are open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. If you are unsure of where to vote, you can check online at www.knoxvotes.org.

“The final vote count for early voting citywide is 5,284 votes cast. There are also 606 votes so far for absentee and nursing homes. Add those two numbers together and we have 5,890 votes cast,” Davis told The Focus Friday.

Davis added, “The early voting period saw 14 days of good weather, but less than 8% of eligible voters have cast a ballot. There’s a lot of work to do on Election Day, and I hope that voters turn out in large numbers on Tuesday, August 26!”
