Driscoll event benefits Toys for Tots

Knox County Commission Candidate Devin Driscoll took a little time away from the campaign trail early last week to host a party for charity.

Many of his supporters and friends were present but Driscoll said he hosted the event, a Christmas gathering, in lieu of a campaign kickoff gathering. He is seeking Seat 11, an at-large seat on the commission.

“This is not a kickoff,” Driscoll, said. “It’s the holidays and this is all about Toys for Tots.”

It was a time for Driscoll to meet with supporters as well as help Toys for Tots.

Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs was on hand and he was the evening’s Santa Claus and other leaders, including Knox County School Board Member Betsy Henderson.

While Driscoll’s brief remarks to the crowd only served to thank them for coming, he did say what inspired him to become involved in local government.

“I own D1 Sports Training and I work with our young people, our young athletes, every day and to me, it’s about keeping our young people in Knox County,” Driscoll said. “Our young people are leaving Knox County. I want to help give them opportunities so they stay in Knox County.”

If elected, Driscoll said he would work with Jacobs through his programs to help assure that young people do not leave the county.

But Tuesday night was all about fun as Christmas carols were piped in through a loudspeaker, the air around the property had the aroma of barbecue and there were plenty of cookies and games for the kids in attendance

“I have the opportunity to work with charities like Toys for Tots and Wreaths Across America,” Driscoll said. “People from Wreaths Across America are here and they reached their goal for this year.”

Wreaths Across America is a non-profit that honors fallen veterans by placing wreaths on their graves annually on the second or third Saturday of December.

Driscoll and his wife, Alison, reside in Farragut and have two children, Ryder and Charleston.
