Protesters Or Insurrectionists? You Be The Judge
The efforts to disrupt and keep the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from doing their jobs is less civil disobedience than insurrection and are more reminiscent of the Civil War, when the southern states resisted and rejected federal laws they did not like, especially those relating to slavery. That dispute led to secession and the formation of the Confederate States of America. The truth is, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and even Joe Biden deported illegal aliens from this country. It has become a virtue-signaling issue for the Left in this country because the occupant of the White House is Donald Trump. The Left has no idea about history or even what happened ten minutes ago, and they revise inconvenient truths as it suits their needs. Their logic is almost invariably as twisted as a pretzel and all too often without even a shadow of reason. More often than not, it is brazenly hypocritical and based on nothing more than emotion or the prevailing narrative they are trying to sell to the public. Once upon a time, Leftists prided themselves as the champions of feminism, and now they have turned one hundred and eighty degrees to champion men in women’s bathrooms, changing rooms, and girls’ sporting events. Now they cannot even tell a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court or a member of Congress what a woman is. We have university presidents who cannot define what a woman is. The truth is, they joyously abandoned reason and logic long ago. Now they have become divorced from reality and insist the rest of us worship at the altar of their own ideology and illusion.
Now they slander ICE agents, federal law enforcement officers, as “Gestapo” agents, which is not only untrue, but also just plain wrong and places federal officers in harm’s way. It shows a bottomless pit of ignorance, as the Gestapo was a deadly organization that was a highly efficient killing machine. If ICE was the equivalent of the Gestapo, none of the protesters would be free to roam the street, block ICE agents with their cars, throw rocks and other projectiles at officers, ram official vehicles with their own cars, blow whistles and generally attempt to create an atmosphere of chaos. Keep in mind, many of those they wish to help escape are violent criminals. We have seen a judge break the law in the name of ideology.
The Gestapo would have dealt with them with deadly efficiency. There were NO such protests in Nazi Germany because a protester was absolutely certain to be arrested, placed in a concentration camp or killed. Dissidents and non-violent protesters were judged and literally beheaded by the Nazi government.
These folks who have made it their moral imperative in Blue states and cities to try and interfere with ICE operations are, in fact, breaking federal law, laws passed by a duly-elected Congress and signed by a duly-elected president of the United States. It is a sad fact that the Left has more in common with the Gestapo than ICE agents, as most of them share the same violent antisemitism of Nazis in their hatred of Jews and Israel.
The idea that these Leftist champions of protecting illegal aliens from federal authorities who compare themselves with those advocating for civil rights are either delusional or morons, or both. It is truly astonishing to consider that these Leftists have all the supposed sympathy in the world for anyone who broke the law by illegally crossing our borders. They seem not to mind, if not actually approving, the billions of dollars spent on federal welfare programs that have been bilked by an immigrant community through extensive and egregious fraud. They care nothing about the victims, legal citizens of the United States, who have been raped, tortured, or murdered by violent criminals who have been run out of their own country and have crossed our open borders to prey upon our innocent citizens. Don’t be fooled that most of these people are merely misguided, albeit warm, empathetic, and sympathetic folks; in truth, they can’t even bring themselves to speak the name of someone like Laken Riley.
No truly decent human being could countenance what happened to Laken Riley. These Leftists excuse or allow any offense – no matter how terrible, no matter how violent or unspeakable – to roll off their backs like water off a duck’s back. They excuse the slaughter of innocent youngsters dancing by Palestinians parachuting from the skies, as well as the rape and murder of babies, women and girls. They save their own tears for those Palestinians whom Hamas deliberately used as a shield to protect their own worthless hides and place the blame on someone else.
No country in the entire world allows anyone who wishes to cross its borders with impunity. There are NO spaces inside this country where federal law does not prevail and cannot be enforced. That is precisely the same argument that sent the eleven states of the Confederacy into forming their own country. These demonstrations and insurrections occur only in Blue states and cities. There are no sanctuary cities; to say there are means that a city can reject federal law. Why should they receive anything from the federal government if federal law does not apply within its jurisdiction?
If the Left thinks they are exempt from any federal law they happen to dislike, what makes them think we would obey any federal law they pass? Because they also believe violence in pursuit of their goals is not only moral, but also just. Those who defended slavery believed the very same thing.
Tommy Schumpert, A Great And Good Man
The Knoxville Focus is deeply sorry to observe the passing away of former County Executive Tommy Schumpert. Mr. Schumpert was a coach and teacher at Central High School while I was a student there and he was hugely popular with the entire student body. All of those who have commented on Mr. Schumpert’s passing have noted perhaps the most memorable thing about him: that he was a good and kind man. Tommy Schumpert was blessed to have possessed an innate sense of common decency that placed him head and shoulders above many of his contemporaries in politics then and certainly amongst the stars in today’s politics.
Mr. Schumpert was an assistant to Earl Hoffmeister, then superintendent of Knox County’s school system. The affable Hoffmeister was the literal builder of many of our school buildings in Knox County, and Tommy Schumpert was the head of the school system’s finances. From the school system, Schumpert then jumped into the race to succeed veteran Knox County Trustee Bob Broome, who served from 1958 until 1990. Broome was a Democrat and so was Schumpert, although his appeal transcended political parties. Schumpert faced a serious opponent in GOP state Representative Paul “Buddy” Scruggs and won. In 1994, Schumpert challenged longtime County Executive Dwight Kessel and won. Tommy Schumpert was reelected in 1998 and served as what is now the county mayor until 2002.
Schumpert served with a heavily Republican legislative body and yet managed to work well with everyone. Throughout his time in public office, Schumpert accomplished much through hard work and consistent effort and never said an unkind thing about anyone. Mr. Schumpert’s style would likely not be successful in today’s political world, and that is unfortunate.
Knox Countians have much to be grateful to Tommy Schumpert for and The Knoxville Focus says a fond farewell to a leader who led by example and kindness. The Focus family extends our deepest sympathies to Charlotte Schumpert and every member of the family. No one who had the pleasure of knowing Tommy Schumpert will ever forget him.
