Go ‘VOLS’

By Ralphine Major

The four letters became important years ago.  They are still important today.  VOLS, which is short for Volunteers, has long been identified with The University of Tennessee (UT).  I do not remember the vantage point where I was standing when I took the picture shown here.  In fact, I do not even remember taking the picture; and it was quite a surprise when it showed up among a stack that I took many years ago on the UT campus.  This picture was made in the fall of 1981.  It appears that I was standing between two buildings looking through to the stadium.  The V O L S lettering appears in the distance, somewhat overshadowed by some trees.

For years, the orange and white letters were a part of Neyland Stadium where thousands congregate every fall to watch the Tennessee Volunteers play football.  It was fantastic news to learn recently that Volunteer fans would once again be able to enjoy those huge V O L S letters that were removed in earlier updates to the stadium!

Words of Faith: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”  James 1:5 (KJV).
