Socialism Is Good Only At Wiping Out The Middle Class

Zohran Mamdani has now been sworn in as mayor of New York City. He claims to be a Democratic Socialist, but this is simply putting lipstick on a pig.

Socialism has proven in a majority of countries around the world that it is really good at one thing – wiping out the middle class.

It greatly benefits the one percent at the top – government contractors, high-ranking bureaucrats and powerful lobbyists. Everyone else gets the shaft or the crumbs.

Many in the national media were sarcastic about or made fun of President Trump’s charge that Mamdani is a communist, but that is exactly what he is. He just didn’t want to admit it.

One of the new mayor’s first appointments was to Cea Weaver as head of the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants.

In 2017, Weaver posted that voters should “elect more communists.” She supported a “Cancel Rent” movement, which would have led to even less housing, and called homeownership “racist” and “a weapon of white supremacy.”

The black former mayor, Eric Adams, said homeownership had helped blacks, browns, and immigrants of all types build wealth. He added that Weaver “was out of her ____ mind” to call owning a home evidence of white supremacy.

Russia was the dominant country in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R.). Communism is just a form of socialism.

The difference between Russian Communism and Mamdani’s “Democratic Socialism” is about equal to the difference between Tweedledum and Tweedledee. The end result of both is failed socialism.

The World Bank published statistics last October saying that 40% of the global population has to get by on $5.00 or less a day, and 62% live on less than $10.00 each day.

I remember reading several years ago that ordinary Russians often had to stand in line for hours to get a pound of sausage. Three years ago, I read a story on the Drudge Report from the French News Service about a typical Cuban housewife who had to stand in separate lines for hours in hopes of getting one or two basic foodstuffs.

In the U.S., on the other hand, because we have relied for the most part on our capitalist freedom, Americans, with only four percent of the world’s population, buy almost 30% of the world’s goods (and 37% of the toys). We are blessed beyond belief to live in this country.

The terrible poverty in so many countries is especially sad because every country has natural resources and/or natural beauty, and usually both, if they could resist the siren call of socialism.

Now, Mamdani has promised the voters of New York City all kinds of free goodies with the high costs to be paid by the very wealthy, most of whom are trying to get out of the city.

New York City already has a debt of more than $300 billion, which will go up even faster if Mamdani makes good on all his many promises.

Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, a Rasmussen Poll claimed that 51% of voters aged 18 to 39 said they would like to vote for a “Democratic Socialist” for president.

AI reports that Mamdani did not win the highest percentage of voters who were born in the U.S., but did win heavily among foreign-born voters. He won primarily from what Rush Limbaugh used to call “low information” voters (less educated) and, of course, with the votes of very liberal and far left elitists.

The communist Cea Weaver mentioned above grew up wealthy in Rochester, NY, consumed with false white guilt, and went to the very left, very expensive Bryn Mawr College, filled with women just like her. One report said Weaver’s mother now lives in a mansion in Nashville.

It has been a disgusting trend for many years for liberals to move out of Democrat-run socialist cities and states – where their high tax, soft-on-crime, socially woke policies have messed up everything – and move to the conservative, fiscally-sound, low tax states run by Republicans.

My late mother moved to Knoxville from Iowa after college in the early 1940s. I have nothing against people moving here, or I wouldn’t be here myself. But it is frustrating when liberals flee the areas they have ruined and then keep voting for liberal elitist candidates.

Our $38 trillion national debt, and trillions more government debt in cities and states, have come about because liberals either don’t understand or won’t admit that costs explode on anything government subsidizes. The pressures or incentives to hold down costs and operate efficiently that are in the private sector just are not present in a government that has grown too big.
