Take Your Medicine
No man’s life, liberty or property are safe while the Legislature is in session.
Judge Gideon J. Tucker
There it was in the bottom of my cup. It was partially dissolved, but it was either a baby aspirin tablet or my statin medication which I take at bedtime since cholesterol synthesis is thought to be higher at night.
For most of my life, daily medication wasn’t required, but for most septuagenarians it is often SOP (standard operating procedure). Now, I have morning and evening dosing rituals.
Have you ever wondered whether the pills you are taking are necessary or even wise? I have, especially because I’ve become skeptical of so much these days. However, before things became so political and corrupt, science proved to me that controlling blood pressure, lowering cholesterol, keeping your weight down and daily physical activity promoted better health.
While in practice, I learned that taking medication was a challenge for patients, especially if prescribed for prevention of problems. It’s difficult to take medicine when the outcome of your action is that nothing happens. However, if you have a sinus infection there’s an incentive to take your medicine. As a result, you’re more apt to be compliant, at least for a while, with medication even if prescribed QID (Latin for quarter in die or four doses daily). But even the hope of rapid relief is often not enough.
Because we rise each morning, I tried to prescribe QD (abbreviation of quaque die, meaning daily) medication. And because we go to bed at night, compliance with a twice daily (BID) regimen is still pretty good. However, a regimen of thrice daily (TID) dosing for any length of time is almost impossible to avoid missing doses of medicine. I won’t bore you with more Latin terms. It’s a dead language and it almost killed me.
Since I take medication twice a day, I use a daily medication organizer which I load for the week. This is helpful because I occasionally can’t remember whether I took my medication. So, it’s reassuring to find the empty slot. Embarrassingly, I have found the morning slot full at bedtime. Hey, it’s a busy life and I’m far from perfect.
Democrats aren’t perfect either since they apparently have not learned from their mistakes of 2024. They refuse to take their medicine and change their unpopular policies. All of their machinations to prevent President Trump’s reelection and then damage the 47th presidency (as they did in his first term) are again falling apart. The term FA/FO has a vulgar derivation so I’ll use the more discrete term. The Dems apparently don’t understand the consequences of Fooling Around, but they are Finding Out.
In my daily spiritual journaling, I often prime my pump with Psalms, Proverbs or New Testament scripture. Psalms 8 has been resonating in my mind and heart of late. The people of government (secularists) have become “people of the lie” to borrow from M. Scott Peck’s book title. John Federman understands this. Even the atheist Bill Maher is decrying leftist assaults on common sense and Christianity, and wishes a return to a kinder gentler time of Christian morality.
I realize it is problematic to label people, but what do you do when the policies of the Democrat party are so wrong about everything American? And just when you thought the Democrats couldn’t be more ridiculous and misguided, Schumer and his coterie of fools shut down their precious government because the Republicans refused to fund free healthcare for the millions of illegals which the Democrats allowed to stream across the border, even flying illegals in from outside the US. Whew! Apparently, Democrats want to spend additional billions to cover the cost of healthcare for illegals who shouldn’t even be here.
And when this lunacy is added to the long list of Democrat policies contrary to the wishes of a majority of Americans, the notion that Democrats are just perverse pops into my mind. Remember, Democrats also support defunding the police, trans surgery for minors, oppose voter ID, violate title IX with men in women’s sports (and private spaces). They are anti DOGE, for no-cash bail, DEI and CRT, want to abolish ICE and they promote sanctuary cities. I could go on, but what’s the point? This bunch has lost their minds and anyone who supports them is either a fool or a quisling. The Democrats refuse to learn from their mistakes of the last election and refuse to take their medicine and change their unpopular policies.
Actually, I couldn’t be happier that the Democrats shut down their precious government and showed their heinies. The AI hilarious parody of Obama-lite Hakeem Jeffries in a sombrero with Chuckles Schumer was hilarious because it was so on-point. I loved the AI depiction of Schumer explaining that they had to appease their radical base, oppose common sense and shut down the government. AI Schumer complained that no one liked Democrats anymore. So he proposed giving illegals healthcare to garner their vote.
Jimmy Kimmel should learn that humor must have an element of truth to be funny. Democrats empowered their radical base in order to demonize President Trump and now they are trapped. The Democrat’s current show of chutzpah is a joke and everyone sees it under the sombrero.
It is apparent that we are in a war with ourselves as during the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln once quoted Jesus that “a house divided against itself cannot stand.” That was true two thousand years ago, 167 years ago and today. America will not survive if Democrat progressive socialists prevail. Elected officials and the military take an oath to defend the Constitution against enemies both foreign and domestic. But what if you or your group or party have become the enemy?
It is fitting that we again have a Department of War. We need one for foreign enemies. But on the home front, it is up to us to vote and take power away from the Democrat party. They have abused that power and subverted the will of We The People. The Democrat leadership has chosen party and power over people. They have become a destructive, if not a subversive, organization.
And now, Democrats have gone “full Thelma and Louise over the shutdown cliff because they don’t listen to anyone except themselves.” Well said, Hugh Hewett.
